AI Teacher Education

The Digital Learning Lab, in partnership with the UCI Teacher Academy, is offering a certificate program in AI-Enhanced Education design for K-12 teachers.

The program will consist of three 3-unit courses:
Foundations of AI for Education
  • How AI Works
  • AI and Society
  • Ethics and Privacy
  • Equity and Access
  • Human-AI Collaboration​
AI-Enhanced Learning
  • Personalized Learning
  • Writing & STEM Supports
  • Inquiry & Creativity
  • Evaluation of Learning Tools
  • Accessibility
AI-Enhanced Teaching
  • Planning with AI
  • Differentiating Instruction with AI
  • AI in Assessment
  • Navigating Stakeholder Concerns
  • Designing Student-Centered AI Lessons
Each course will be offered online over a 10-week period beginning in 2025 (Course 1 in fall, Course 2 in winter, and Course 3 in spring) and will include a combination of synchronous and asynchronous activities. The program will also be offered in summers, beginning Summer 2026, on a nine-week basis (3 weeks per course). We are also exploring opportunities to offer the course – at UC Irvine, abroad, or online – to groups of international educators.
